Black Garlic Peel Tea

About the Tea

Black garlic peel tea is a zero-waste herbal infusion made by steeping the papery skins of black garlic in hot water.

The resulting savory broth or tisane contains residual plant antioxidants like quercetin and beneficial organosulfur compounds extracted from the skins.

Steep

Let the mixture simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.

Properties & Uses

  • Flavor profile: Tastes earthy, mild, and savory rather than pungent, especially when using skins from sweet, fermented black garlic.

  • Sustainability: Reuses tough outer kitchen scraps that are otherwise thrown into the compost or trash.

Rinse

Wash the skins gently in a fine strainer to remove any dust or dirt.

Strain

Pour the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer into a mug.

Safety Note

Ensure the peels are completely clean and free of dirt or mold before steeping, and strain out the papery bits entirely to avoid any texture or choking risks

Simmer

Bring the water to a boil in a small pot, add the peels, and lower the heat.

Enjoy!

stir in honey or lemon if desired.

Sip & Savor.
