Woodsman’s Shield: Botanical Bug Defense
Professional-Grade Botanical Protection
- The inclusion of Lemon Eucalyptus, which is widely recognized by health authorities as the most effective plant-based alternative to synthetic repellents. It provides longer-lasting protection against mosquitoes than almost any other essential oil.
Multi-Insect Defense
- Unlike basic citronella sprays, this formula uses a "synergy" of oils to target different pests:
-
Mosquitoes & Flies: Repelled by Lemon Eucalyptus and Lemongrass.
-
Ticks & Gnats: Deters these stubborn pests using the "hot" properties of Thyme and Cinnamon.
-
Aromatic Barrier: Creates a scent cloud that masks the carbon dioxide and skin odors that attract bugs in the first place.
No "Sticky" Residue
- Because the base is Witch Hazel and Distilled Water rather than a heavy carrier oil, the spray feels like a refreshing mist. It dries almost instantly, leaving the skin feeling cool and clean—not greasy or tacky—making it ideal for humid summers or long trail rides.
Skin-Soothing Properties
- Most bug sprays just "block" bugs, but this actually treats the skin:
-
Witch Hazel: Acts as a natural astringent to tone the skin and reduce inflammation from existing heat or minor irritations.
-
Lavender: Helps calm the skin and provides a relaxing aromatic finish to balance the sharper medicinal scents.
-
DEET-Free & Non-Synthetic
-
No harsh synthetic chemicals.
-
No artificial fragrances or "parfum."
-
No plastic-melting ingredients (DEET is known to damage gear/clothing; your botanical spray is safe for most fabrics).
Environmentally Conscious
- By using pure essential oils and glass packaging, our product is biodegradable and eco-friendly. It’s safe for use in gardens, around pets (with proper distance), and near water sources where chemical runoff would be an issue.
1. Shake to Activate: Because we use pure botanical oils without synthetic emulsifiers, the "Shield" naturally separates. Give it a vigorous shake before every application to ensure you’re getting the full potency of the Lemon Eucalyptus and Thyme.
2. Mist Generously: Hold the bottle 6–8 inches from your skin or clothing. Spray in a slow, sweeping motion. For maximum protection, ensure you cover all exposed areas—bugs look for the "missed spots!"
3. The Face & Neck: To avoid the eyes and mouth, do not spray directly onto the face. Instead, spray a small amount into your palms and gently pat onto your face, neck, and behind the ears.
4. Reapply Often: Natural protection is a ritual. For best results, reapply every 2 hours, or more frequently if you are sweating heavily or in deep "bug territory."
5. Gear Safe: Our water-based formula is safe for most fabrics and outdoor gear. Mist your hats, socks, and backpacks for an extra layer of defense.
⚠️ Safety & Care
-
Patch Test: Apply to a small area first to ensure no sensitivity to the "hot" oils (Cinnamon/Thyme).
-
Storage: Keep your bottle out of direct sunlight and high heat (like a hot car) to maintain the strength of the essential oils.
-
Kids: Recommended for ages 3 and up. For younger children, spray on clothing or strollers rather than directly on skin.
-
herbal tea (distilled water infused with rosemary, cloves & lavender), witch hazel, lemon eucalyptus essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, lavender essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, thyme essential oil, cinnamon essential oil

🐾 1. The "Do Not Spray" Direct Rules
-
Never Spray the Dog: While this is a powerhouse on human skin and clothing, do not spray this formula directly onto your dogs.
-
The Culprits: Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, Thyme, and Cinnamon Leaf are fantastic at shielding humans, but they are considered highly irritating—and in large doses, toxic—to dogs if ingested, licked off the fur, or absorbed through their sensitive skin. (Cinnamon and Thyme contain high levels of phenols, which a dog's liver cannot break down efficiently).
🌬️ 2. Safe Application Practices for You
-
The "Step Away" Rule: When you are getting ready for a trek, step outside or into a separate, well-ventilated room to spray yourself down. Let the initial heavy cloud of spray settle on your skin and clothes for a minute or two before letting your dogs come back up to you.
-
Avoid Fresh Wet Patches: Try to avoid letting your dogs lick your skin or clothing while the spray is still fresh and wet. Once the spray has completely dried down onto your jeans, hiking pack, or skin, the risk of accidental ingestion drops dramatically.
